Presenter and programme maker Paul Murton makes a personal journey beyond the myths and the tartan to uncover the real story of Scotland’s Highland Clans.

The series starts with Clan MacGregor. In the 17th century this Highland clan reached such heights of infamy that it was outlawed by the State and the name MacGregor became punishable by death.

After starting with his own MacGregor ancestry in programme one, Paul moves on to explore the defining moments in the histories of the MacDonald, MacLeod, Campbell, Fraser and MacKenzie Clans.

Using historical and modern-day locations, the stunning beauty of Scotland’s landscape, the testimony of contemporary accounts and present-day descendants as well as a haunting original score, Paul Murton immerses himself in a thousand years of Highland Clan history and in doing so uncovers some truly gripping stories.

Special highlights include Paul re-enacting the renowned Highland Charge, driving Highland cattle to market, and sailing an ancient Highland galley through the Sound of Mull.
